after the Event Commemorating the 47th Anniversary
of the Founding of the Nicaraguan Army

A very good evening, Compañeros and Compañeras, beloved families of our noble, generous, brilliant, brave, Nicaragua, Forever Blessed with the strength of Faith and Affection.

Here we are, I wish I had all the words to be able to say what I feel in front of such a celebration, so greatly valuing the Heroism of a People, a People who on this day celebrate the Vigor and Glory of the Nicaraguan Army. Our People, a People who fill us with pride… Patriotism, Pride, Dignity, Honor, that’s what we have, thanks be to God, as Nicaraguans.

And all this is expressed in one word: Peace! Peace is what Nicaragua’s families deserve.  Peace to advance, Peace to build, to continue building the Future, with more Hospitals, more Schools, more Specialized Health Centers, more Technical Education Centers, more Young people opting for People President scholarships; almost 60,000 higher education scholarships have been awarded between last year and this.

More and more progress, which is what our people deserve… Homes, Highways, Roads, Streets, Recreational Spaces, Educational Spaces, Meeting Spaces. This is what Nicaragua’s Families deserve, what we all deserve and it is what we are building in Love and with Love, following the steps and dreams of all our Heroes and Martyrs, whom we carry always in our Hearts; to their families also always an embrace of Recognition and Respect.

Those who do not want a Patriotic Nation, because they no longer have a nation, because they do not deserve to be Nicaraguans, there they are, far away, endlessly concocting evil that never comes about, because Nicaragua’s People reject Hatred… They want Peace! The People of Nicaragua, all of us, live out our Faith, which is our Strength, so as to guarantee, among Everyone and for the Sake of Everyone, Peace, the Supreme Gift, the Supreme Patrimony of this Nicaragua of Us All.

Those who do not love a nation, there they are, tripping over each other, because the one dispute among them is over who can grab the most, who can beg the most, who can show off the most, or who can get most attention.  And they are by now, really, at their bitter end, they even provoke pity, I would say, because as a Christian one feels compassion. They are pitiful, for crawling along, unable to behave the way we Nicaraguans do.

Our Pride, our Identity, our Strength, is Faith, is Love, is Affection, and is the Commitment to Go Onward, in Peace and Goodness, building the Future we deserve, the Future for which our Heroes, our Martyrs gave us everything. And now the Nicaraguan Army when it cries out «Everything for the Fatherland”, we know that it really is Everything for the Fatherland, it is the Right to live in Peace, it is the Right to live creating the Works of Progress Nicaragua wants and needs, and which we are creating All Together, because it is All Together that We Moving Onward!

Honor and Glory to all the Heroes of all Times, to the Heroes and Martyrs of our Army, and above all remembering the Sacred Words of Sandino: The Sovereignty of a People is not discussed but defended. How? With Soul, with Life, with Heart. Our People is defended with Justice and with Truth.

There are those who would like us to become, perhaps, just one more State of that Flag which is not ours. No…! We are a Sovereign State. Respect our Institutions, our Decisions, and our Ways. We hurt no one, we create the Future we deserve.

With the Force and with the Strength of Spirit which manifests itself every day, our Great Spirit, in this Blessed Nicaragua, We are Going Onward, building that Future of Glory and Victories we so very much deserve.

Embraces, Warm Embraces, Compañeras and Compañeros. Let us Go Onward!
